Please join us for FREE between the hours of 20:00 and 24:00 (midnight) during BruCON’s Fracknight. Workshops included are Making Cool Things with Microcontrollers with Mitch Altman, Rastermania Arcade Cabinets, and Make Your Own Arduino Clone workshops with yours truly (aka fbz). Also on hand will be a TON of awesome kits, inspirational projects, Makerbot 3D printers, a large LED installation built with fnordlicht mini’s from the http://www.lochraster.org/ guys. arduino paper automaton workshop at froscon
hi hardhackers! hardhack proudly presents an awesomesauce workshop coming up very soon: Manuel Odendahl will conduct an Arduino paper automaton workshop which requires prior registration here. It will be held in the hardhack track at FrOSCon on Saturday, August 21st starting at 10:00 am in room C117 (link to workshop in FrOSCon schedule here). FrOSCon is located in Sankt Augustin, outside of Bonn and near Cologne in Germany.
a snippet from Manuel’s description of the hands-on workshop: “We will build a paper automaton, animate it with servos connected an arduino, and control it using processing. We first begin by cutting small mechanisms out of paper, glueing them together, coloring them. In a second step, we program an arduino and connect it to servos to animate the paper automaton. In a third step, we control the arduino through processing, making the automaton move according to music or other user inputs.
The places are limited to 8 people.”
So get over to his registration page, and come join us for another installment of hardhack replete with makerbots, lots of arduino action, big blinky led installations, fnordlichts, and much moar hands-on action!
hardhack call for workshops at FrOSCon
hardhack will be at FrOSCon http://www.froscon.org/ in Sankt Augustin, Germany on August 21 and 22, 2010, and will include hands-on hardware workshops and demos. Do you have a hardware-based workshop or demo and would like to be included in the FrOSCon hardhack demo area? Drop us a line by June 20th, 2010 to mail@hardhack.org with the following information:
* workshop/demo title
* workshop/demo description
* workshop/demo time requirement (please estimate as well as you can)
* your contact info: email, website, cellphone number
* approximate parts cost for participants (kits or other materials you will provide)
* required and suggested materials for participants to bring (examples: laptop, usb/serial adaptor, hackable stuff)
* any questions you may have
Travel costs may or may not be reimbursed, depending on need and the ability to secure sponsorship for hardhack workshops. Please include your needs in your submission. We look forward to hardware hacking with you!
thank you workshop leaders and volunteers at SIGINT!

we would like to extend a huge thank you to our workshop leaders and volunteers for hardhack at SIGINT a few weeks ago on May 22, 23 and 24 in Cologne, Germany. you were all exemplary and awesome, and hardhack salutes you!
hardhack call for workshops 2010
hardhack will be all hands-on workshops and/or demos. what does that mean? that means that there will be no powerpoint presentations, no blah blah, only hands-on workshops or demonstrations. there will be no video projectors, so if you require that for your workshop, please rethink and prepare printed or digital handouts to convey the information you need to share.
example topics for hands-on workshops or demos at hardhack (these are not limiting, be creative!): building hardware from a kit you designed, reverse engineering existing hardware, wearables, washable circuitry, building sensors from scratch, 3d printing, diy manufacturing, reversing firmware on existing hardware, open source hardware, fun with embedded device firmware, blinky stuff, robotics, audio hardware, vehicle modding, circuit design, or anything fun your brain can output for a hardhack workshop.
the due date for workshop/demo submissions is April 15th, 2010. submit your workshop/demo to mail att hardhack dott org with the following info:
* workshop/demo title
* workshop/demo description
* any questions you may have
once workshops are accepted, there will be a sign up list for each workshop to determine which ones make the cut. this reduces the empty / too-full workshop syndrome and allow for a maximum of hardware hacking! hardhack will be a sub-conference of SIGINT this year, and all entry costs for participants will apply. travel costs for persons giving workshops at hardhack can not be covered, but the entry cost to SIGINT will be covered. the call for workshops for hardhack is separate from the call for papers for SIGINT, you are free to apply to both if you like. selling kits for your workshop is fine, but please keep the costs fair and transparent from the beginning. hardhack will have the space for about 200 participants, sign ups for workshop participation will go online as soon as each workshop is approved.
any questions? mail att hardhack dott org.
hardhack at sigint2010 in cologne
big news this year, hardhack will move from berlin to cologne and become a subconference of the ccc’s SIGINT 2010. this weekend i will release the hardhack call for workshops, and in the meantime if you want to participate in SIGINT with a talk instead of a hands-on hardware workshop, please see SIGINT’s Call For Papers.
hardhack will have an entire floor at SIGINT, what is traditionally a hackcenter at a CCC conference, and this year will be reserved just for hardhack’s hands-on workshops. sign ups will be a bit different this year, and i will release more information this week about how this will work. in the meantime, ladies and gentlemen, fire up your soldering irons! hardhack 2010 will be May 22, 23, and 24, 2010 at Komed Im Mediapark, Im Mediapark 7, 50670 Cologne, Germany.
